About Us

History of YMME Society & G.A High School

The Youngmens Model Education Society, Sangli is a leading Educational Institute based in Sangli in Western Maharashtra. Located on the banks of the Krishna river in the Sangli city  Ganpatrao Arwade High School, was established in the pre independence era by Late Dattopant Apte and his enterprising friends, on 12th August 1939 by combining two schools together, the Pratap School and the Model School to impart education to the poor and downtrodden.

Initially the school was started in the Panjarpol or a Cattle pound. Later a  dilapidated wada was bought and a new school building was constructed in the same premises with financial support from the Late Ganpatrao Arwade, who was a leading industrialist of that time. The school was then named after him and came to be recognised as Ganpatrao Arwade High School, Sangli.

Further to this a Junior College for Science was established in 1972. Vocational education was introduced at the Junior College level in 1986. In 1989 a full fledged MCVC department was established wherein 6 different vocational courses were started to prepare students for Entrepreneurship.

The School introduced Computer education at Secondary and Higher Secondary levels in 2010. Electronics and Computer Science were also introduced at Higher Secondary level as bifocal subjects in 2012. Additional division for Science was added in 2021. Today the school has a combined strength of around 1500 students and 35 teaching staff alongwith 10 non - teaching staff members. The School is making strides in different fields like Academics, Sports, Science and innovation, as well as Cultural activities.
